Great Free Checking Account from Washington Mutual!

This is a great free checking account, without any monthly fees, and without any requirements for direct deposit. This is a truly free checking account from Washington Mutual. Really! What's the downside? The only one I can think of is that you don't get any interest for money kept in your checking account. No interest regardless of the amount. So what are the benefits of WaMu Free Checking?

  • No monthly fees
  • No minimum balance
  • No direct deposit requirement
  • Free checks for Life. Yes, free checks, and i'm not talking about the starter checks. Free checks as long as the account is open. You get the basic checks for free, you pay extra if you want special features such as double checks or other customizations.
  • Free ATM/debit Mastercard card
  • Free bill payment service with 2 business day turnaround for some of the frequent payers (eg credit cards, utilities, etc)
  • 3c cashback bonus with every debit/credit transaction using your ATM/debit card. The bonus is 3 cents per transaction, not 3% of the total amount. The reward amount is credited to your account once a year, 12 months after you enroll in the rewards program. Wow!.
  • Option of free check return or safe keeping. Cashed checks also are stored online as JPEG pictures.
  • One free waiver of an Overdraft/Non-Sufficient Funds fee per year. Wow!. The waiver actually rolls over to the next year, so if you don't use it in year #1, you have two of them in year #2.
  • Conducting transations at a branch is free (some other banks charge a small fee to discourage people from visiting the branch)
  • You also get the usual stuff, online access to your account, 24x7 telephone access, in-branch access, ATM access worldwide, etc, etc
  • Free ID Theft Services
  • Free outgoing wire transfers (domestic and international) ( Non-refundable foreign currency exchange charges and intermediary and beneficiary bank fees may apply).
  • Friendly customer service, both in the branch and by telephone
  • For more details check Wamu.com or visit a branch
