With so many back to school special sales on notebooks and laptops, it is a good way to keep track of them. The sub-$500 notebook today is not just a toy computer anymore. You can get a lot of things done with $500. Granted you are not going to get the fastest processor or components or all the latest features, but that's the difference between paying $500 and $1500! Is an extra $1000 worth the few extra features and the performance boost? For some people it is well worth it, for a lot of other people it is a very reasonable compromise! Needless to say the best bang for the buck right now at the $500 notebooks with dvd-burners and 1gb RAM.
