Free stuff in the Sunday Paper Ads (after rebate of course)

Welcome to another edition of the Sunday Paper Freebies! In today's episode we have drugstores and Staples freebies! We start with the latter.


Freebies at Staples
Staples uses Easy Rebates, which are the most consumer friendly rebates out there, as you don't need to mail or photography anything. You simply enter numbers from your receipt on the Staples rebates website and thus you submit your rebates!

The freebies are Pentel retractable assorted highlighters or permanent markers. You can chose one or the other. The highlighters are a four-pack of orange, yellow, pink and blue. The permanent markets are blue, black and red. The SKU codes are 698067 for the highlighters and 698057 for the permanent markers. Both are of the retractable variety, working like a pen in that you click it for the writing tip to come out of the shell. The SKU numbers are helpful so you can easily match the offer to the product display at Staples. And you don't need to rely on a CSR to match the offer with the rebate!

Also free, after a $140 mail-in rebate (not Easy Rebate), is the Peachtree Pro Accounting 2008 software package, by Sage. Limit one per customer. You still have to pay sales tax on the whole amount however. Be sure to check the box or the Staples website for more details.


Free after rebate at the drugstores
Longs Drugs is offering the Refresh Dry Eye Trial Pack free after a mail-in rebate using their Longs Rebate Catalog. You assemble all your rebates for the month, and mail them all together in one envelope. The price before rebate is $5, which is what you pay in-store. Plus any applicable taxes of course :)

At Walgreens, free after a on-box rebate (not a Walgreens Easy Saver Catalog rebate) is the Accu-Check Aviva blood glucose meter system. Limit one per person. The rebate amount is $20, which is what you pay in-store. Remember the rebate for this item is on/in the box, not the Walgreens rebate book!

Meanwhile Rite Aid has three items that are free after rebate. Rite aid rebates can be submitted online, which spares you the trouble of making photocopies and mailing stuff at the Post Office! Not to mention that you know within 3-4 days whether your entry was approved. Which gives you plenty of time to fix it or return the item if you accidentally got the wrong one. The three Rite Aid freebies (after rebate) are:

Aquafresh Extreme Clean toothpaste, 5.6 ounces, limit one, price $2.49

Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste, 4oz, limit one, price $2.99

Free after manufacturers coupon
Rite Aid is offering the Adidas Action 3 antiperspirant/deodorant, 2.6 to 2.8 oz, for $4.99. And if you dig into the coupon section of your sunday paper you will find a coupon for $4.99 off this item. So if you use your coupon at Rite Aid, you will get this item for free. No rebates to mail, this is free after coupon!


Totally Free: 15 prints at Walgreens (on Tax Day!)
As an extra incentive to get your taxes done early, Walgreens is offering 15 free 4x6 prints on Tuesday April 15, 2008. This is unconditional, no rebates, no other purchases. You do have to present a coupon which you can find in the weekly Walgreens circular which is in your Sunday paper, but also in each Walgreens store. You will also receive it via email if you are in the Walgreens mailing list. And you can probably print it from their website as well. It's FREE :) The prints of course are 4x6 digital prints, don't expect to get 15 giant posters for free :)

You can also do this online, promotion code TAXDAY. For online stuff, you can redirect them to your local Walgreens shop or you can get them by mail, which I assume will have the additional cost of shipping and handling.

Free after rebate in this week's Sunday paper ads

This is a modest week in free after rebate (FAR) items in the Sunday paper circular ads. The drugstores seem to dominate the freebies. First up, Rite Aid offers the Garnier Color Breaks Hair Color, one application, for free after a $5.99 rebate. Also from Rite Aid, Nature's Cure Yeast Infection Treatment, 1 or 3 day package, free after a $16.99 rebate. The good thing with Rite Aid rebates is that you can submit them online. There is no need to cut upc codes or mail receipts and forms. Nice! More details at the Rite Aid site.

Longs Drugs offers a couple of freebies as well, first up the Longs branded Nicotine Polacrilex coated gum, 2mg or 4mg, 40ct, for free after a $20 rebate. Also after a $20 mail-in rebate you can get the Ameal BP Dietary supplement 60ct or 90ct chewable. Ameal helps maintain healthy blood pressure. Longs Drugs rebates have to be submitted by mail, but you don't need to send upc codes.

Walgreens offers $50 in coupons for free just for asking the Walgreens pharmacist about the Walgreens Prescriptions Savings Club. This lets you pay just $13 for a 90-day supply for over 300 generic medications. Free after rebate is the Gilette Venus Embrace Razor, after a $10 mail in rebate. Walgreens rebates have to be mailed in, but you do not need to cut upc codes.

Also free after rebate at Walgreens is the Accu-Chek Ativa blood glucose meter. The mail-in rebate is on the box, not in the Walgreens EasySaver catalog. This has to be submitted separated from the monthly Walgreens rebates. The price you pay is $20. As with all rebates, be sure to make copies of everything you submit, and keep track of the rebates.

Pepsi on sale for $1.25 per 2-liter at Longs Drugs

With the Pepsi Stuff promotion under way, you might be on one many people who are feverishly collecting Pepsi stuff points so you can get DRM-free mp3s from Amazon (legally of course) or other goodies. Since that promo came up, it seems that the 99c 2-liter Pepsi sales have dried up.

The best we found so far is $1.25 per 2-liter bottle at Longs Drugs. Be sure to check the bottles you buy to make sure they are participating in the promotion, and they are not older or non-participating. Look for the PepsiStuff.com text and promo on the label and at the top of the cap.

For more details, be sure to check PepsiStuff.com. It is interesting that they have cross-linked the promo with the Amazon accounts.

Of course if you don't want to do that, you can just create another user name for the purposes of this promo. You are an enpowered consumer, don't let them bully you around! :) Oh my, I'm turning into a Coupon Version of Oprah? I'm the Couponprah!

Hloiday mugs for 40c each at Longs Drugs

If you love holiday themed coffee mugs or if you want cheap coffee mugs, Longs Drugs has their coffee mugs on 50% off sale. Their regular price is 80c, so with the 50% discount, they come down to 40c each! That's 40c per coffee mug!

Think of this as an instant rebate to be used on your next purchase. Let's say you buy the item below and receive a $7 Register Rewards coupon after you pay for the item. You can use it to take $7 off your next purchase at Walgreens. Be sure to read the fineprint on the coupon as some of them may have restirctions (no alcohol, no tobacco, no dairy, no lottery, no gift cards, etc). In general these are even better than rebates because you get them in your hand right away. But they are not as versatile as cash!

Rebate Tip
If you are going to do rebates, be sure you are not half-way or half-heartedly in it. To be efficient and effective, you have to take the simple steps of processing them right away, making photocopies when you submit, and track the checks by keeping a folder with your submissions. Once a check arrives/is cashed, shred/recycle the copies in your folder (or move them to another folder if you want to keep track of your past purchases). That way your pending rebates folder will always be up to date!

Check your emails from Staples! Today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) they are having a 12% off sale on most items in the stores (excludes computers, gift cards, stamps, etc). All you have to do is print the email that talks about the offer and take it to the store with you!

Here's how it works: For every purchase you make (eg $5.64) they will round up the amount to the nearest dollar amount (eg $6) and transfer the difference (36 cents) from your checking to your savings acount (this is a bit bizarre, I agree). But here is where the bonus comes: For the first three months, they will match 100% of the amount for every Visa Check card purchase! So in this case you will get 36c as a bonus from Bank of America. After the first three months the bonus percentage drops to 5%. So in such a transaction you would get 1.8 cents. You can earn up to $250 in bonuses this way, and the bonus is paid annually.
