Notebook computer extravaganza at Office Depot (Sept 9 to 16, 2007)

Office Depot continues to have aggresively prices laptop deals. One thing to keep in mind is that you need to send in mail-in rebates in order to get these prices. Office Depot does not have online rebates, so you have to mail them in and patiently wait until they are received and cashed. And with that out of the way, let's look at the laptops in this week's circular, sorted by lower price first, just like you like them :-)

We have one sub-$500 laptop, albeit after two mail-in rebates ($180 total), bringing the price down to $450. The computer in question is the Compaq Presario F572us with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 DC TK-53 processor, 1gb RAM, 80gb hard disk drive, dual layer super-multi dvd burner, 802.11 b/g wireless LAN, 15.4" widescreen display, and the obligatory Vista Home Premium.

Next up the price ladder at $550 (after two rebates of $150 total) is Toshiba A125-S4697 Satellite Notebook, powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core TL-52 processor, 1gb memory, 160gb disk, dual layer dvd burner, 802.11 b/g wireless LAN, 15.4" widescreen display, and Vista Home Premium. The ad toutes "power life" but no specifics are listed.

Sony fans will be thrilled to see a Sony Vaio for $600 (after $180 in mail-in rebates). The Sony Vaio VGN-N325E/B is powered by an Intel Pentium DC T2080, and has a 1gb RAM, 120gb disk, dual layer dvd burner, b/g wireless LAN, 15.4" XBrite-ECO widescreen, and Vista Home Premium.

Next up at $650 (after $200 in mail-in rebates) is the HP Pavilion DV6426us using an Intel Centrino Duo Core Duo T2450, 1gb memory, 160gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner with lightscribe, 15.4" widescreen, built-in webcam, and Vista Home Premium.

Also at $650 (after $150 in rebates) is the Toshiba A215-S4747, powered by the AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-56, and spotting 1gb memory, 200gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner, 15.4" widescreen, built-in webcam, and Vista Home Premium.

Next price stop is at $700 (after $150 in mail-in rebates), with the Toshiba Satellite U305-S5097, sporting an Intel Pentium dual-core T2130. Geared towards fans of smaller notebooks, it features a 13.3" TRUBRITE WIDESCREEN, 1gb DDR2, 160GB hard drive, dual layer dvd burner, built-in Webcam and Microphone, b/g wireless and the obligatory Windows Vista Home Premium.

Also at the same price (after $200 mail-in rebates) is the HP Pavilion DV9410US. This is geared towards fans of bigger notebooks as it sports a 17" BRIGHTVIEW wide display. The processor is the AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core, and has 1gb ddr2 memory, 160GB hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner w/lightscribe, built-in webcam, b/g wireless and Vista Home Premium.

Then we have an Office Depot exclusive model, the Toshiba A215-S4757, for $800 (after $150 in mail-in rebates). The processor is an AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-56 with 2gb memory, 250gb hard disk drive, dual layer dvd burner, 802.11 b/g wireless LAN, 15.4" widescreen display, and Vista Premium. This is the first notebook of this ad with 2gb RAM.

And we now get into the more powerful notebooks, starting with the Toshiba A205-S4777, for $950 (after $150 mail-in rebates). It has an Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 Duo T5450, 2gb memory, 200gb disk, dual layer dvd burner with label flash, 802.11 a/b/g/N wireless, 15.4" TruBrite widescreen, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam and Vista Premium.

Next up at $1000 after $200 in mail-in rebates we have the HP Pavilion DV9420US notebook with AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core, 17" BRIGHTVIEW WIDESCREEN, 2gb DDR2, 240gb hard disk, dual burner with lightscribe, a/b/g wirelss but with Bluetooth, built-in webcam, and everybody's favorite Vista Home Premium.

Also at $1000 (after $200 in mail in rebates) is the HP Pavilion TX1210US, with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-58, a swiveling 12.1" brightview wide display, 2gb memory, 160GB hard drive, dual layer dvd burner with lightscribe, built-in webcam and finger printer reader, a/b/g/N wireless with Bleutooth, and Vista HP.

Back to the Toshibas now, we have the Satellite A215-S4767, with AMD Turion 64 X2 DC TL-64, 2gb RAM, 250gb hard disk, dual layer dvd burner with label flash, 15.4" widescreen, b/g wireless lan, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam, and Vista Ultimate. The price is $1050 after $150 in mail-in rebates.

More from Toshiba, the Qosmio F45-AV411 features an Intel Centrino Duo Core2 Duo T5450, 2gb memory, 200gb hard disk drive, dual layer with labelflash, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam, a/b/g/N wireless, and Vista Ultimate. The price? $1100 after $200 in mail-in rebates.

Exactly the same price after $150 mail-in rebates is the Sony VGN-FZ140E/B, with an Intel Centrino Core 2 duo T7100, with 2gb memory, 200gb disk, dual layer dvd burner, a/b/g/n wireless, built-in webcam, and Vista Premium. As you may decode from the model number, this is one of the subcompact FZ-series Sonys.

And the last but certainly not least notebook of this week's circular ad comes with five HD-DVD movies by mail. As you can imagine it has an optical drive that plays HD-DVDs and is also a cd and dual layer dvd burner. The model is Toshiba P205-S6347 (or perhaps P205-5634D - the ad shows both). Powered by an Intel Core 2 duo T5450, 2gb RAM, 200gb hard disk, a/b/g/N wireless lan, built-in fingerprint reader and webcam, 17" trubrite widescreen, and Vista Premium. The price is $1200 after 4150 mail-in rebates.
